Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nasser Kanani said on Friday morning that Iran as a victim of terrorism, which has lost renowned officials in over past four decades, follows up the reports on assassination attempt against the former Japanese premier with serious concern.
The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the terrorist move categorically, the spokesman emphasized.
Iran’s embassy in Tokyo has twitted: We condemn the coward assassination. We wish for his health and recovery by the God.
According to local media reports, Shinzo Abe, 67-year-old, is showing no vital signs after being shot in the city of Nara.
The incident happened Abe was making a speech during a campaign for parliamentary election in Nara city, when he was targeted from behind; then, he was sent to a hospital.
The Japanese government confirmed the shooting, announcing that his condition is not clear.
Published pictures of the incident show that the attacker has been arrested. Some news media in Japan reported that the assailant was a former member of Japanese marine, who made use of a hand-made gun to commit the crime.
Reuters quoted Chinese media outlets as saying that Abe is still unconscious, and he was suffering from heart attack, when he was taken to a hospital.
